Revamped Website Much Quicker, New Product Launch, Matt in Competition

Hi all,

REVAMPED SITE

Thank you for all of your visits to the revamped www.GymProfessor.com site. Unfortunately, it caused the site to slow up too much, therefore, we've swapped the server over this weekend, so it's now working much quicker (& should be better again come Monday). With over 100 hundred workouts, 300 exercises, and 100's of articles, be sure to check it out :)

NEW PRODUCT

Ah, so this is what a Patent looks like (see below)...

An evolution in weight training is on it's way!
Does it ever strike you that there are no really "interesting" new fitness products on the market these days? We've noticed too and it's exactly why we've been busy inventing in the Gym Professor lab (gym!). An “evolution in weight training” is on its way. Being a newsletter subscriber, you'll be one of the first to find out about it :)

MATT IN NATIONAL FINALS

The www.GymProfessor.com exercise skills demonstrator, Matt, will be competing in the NPA Great Britain Finals this weekend. Matt has used gym workouts from our GP Shuffle workout app in preparation for the event, as well as using our new product (mentioned above).

Training Memories/ History Part 2

Hi all,

Yesterday, I was handed some bodybuilding magazines dating back to the 40’s and 50’s from an old friend (a weight trainer who’s now in his 70’s!). I’ve only skim read them, but it’s great to see physiques slightly reminiscent of the “natural” scene today (I may be being a little kind). It’s also great that 'bodybuilding' is referred to by its more traditional name of ‘physical culture’, which sounds so, so much better. Anyway, there are some great workouts, stories and articles in there from some of the historical greats of weight training and physical culture. On occasion, I’ll pick through some of the better bits and post them to our newsletter. Here’s a good one for you, a shoulder workout by 1950 ‘Mr Belgium’ (note: and a 'Veterans' class winner in the 80's!) Georges Dardene...

All of these exercises, excluding Around-the-Worlds/ Stiff-Arm Circles (I'm not too keen on this exercise!), can be found amongst my shoulder exercises demonstrations at the link below:

Training Drug Free

Just taken on my Phone.
I cannot rave about weight training (& sport in general) enough. Anyone reading this, I hope has found that sport has enriched their lives to – whether making them healthier, creating structure, making friends, finding success etc. Unfortunately, I sometimes encounter the opposite (I’ve seen it a couple of times this week alone) and it’s largely due to the misuse of drugs in sport, therefore, I thought I’d share the following with you...

Aside from a tiny white-lie (so as not to hurt someone), I’m always honest, but, writing under an alias (Gym Professor) gives me the opportunity to be truthful and it not be questioned, which I like :). Most around me know that I’m a true drug free athlete, but my status is called in to question time-and-time again by many. Although a little frustrating, I kind of take this as a compliment (you have to!).

Although I write about (or train) people seeking seeking differing physique or sporting endeavors, my own chosen sport is bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is perhaps the most obscure choice of sport to participate in free from drugs. This strange choice would lead you to think I'm bitter towards those that aren't "natural", but you'd be completely wrong. Provided someone’s open about the use of it within their sport and doesn’t impress their view on others forcibly, I’m relatively okay with this.

My general reading is typically about the use of drugs within sport (in particular bodybuilding) - it's fascinating! However, what is astonishing is how little the majority of users & dealers know - it's embarrassing! More a case of "I got big using this, so you should use it", "He got massive taking that, I'm going on that". Having spent all of my life in this environment, although I’ve known very many people have good short-term gains, their longevity in the sport (I’m even thinking of national champs here to!) has not been that of the natural weight trainers I’ve known. Indeed, it’s the drug free athletes (making up the minority) that still enjoy their weight training and a stable home life today (& a better physique!). Another annoyance is that it's normally the entirely wrong people using performance and/ or physique enhancing drugs; moreover it's to compensate for serious failings with their training & diet. Please do yourself a favor and purchase sensible reference guides (like Gym Workouts – Maps to Success) to avoid these failings and make gains that are sustainable. Thereafter, the choice is yours - I'm just giving you my personal view point.

I hope you’ve found this information of interest. You may also wish to check out our article ‘Basics about Steroids’.

All the best,

GP

Weight Training General Knowledge

Sad I (Gym P.) know, but weight training is one of the loves of my life. No matter what your physique goal or sporting activity, weight training can help toward this endeavor. There are many widespread misconceptions about training with weights (or any type of resistance training for that matter), not helped by misleading advertising, but, hopefully the Gym Professor site & my constant use of analogies will help to clarify things and set you on the right track.

Realising that many of you will be looking for guidance, the
Gym Professor website includes:

Numerous
exercise diagrams - providing basic instruction and detailing muscles exercised, what the exercise is for & who the exercise is for.
Weight training &
gym routines - relating to your physique goals & sports.
Periodization strategies - for general training and sports.
Fitness assessments - performing fitness tests & measuring hopefully positive trends.
& Much more besides...

For successful
weight training, I would suggest you have a basic understanding of nutrition and anatomy (in particular kinesiology). Information on both can be found on the Gym Professor website.

Incredibly helpful & thorough
eBooks will be released over time, with in-depth information and even more guidance on the above subject matters. So, if you find the Gym Professor website useful, please consider purchasing one of our great eBooks. In the meantime, please be sure to subscribe to this blog, our newsletter and visit our advertisers.

Cheers,

Gym P.

Weight Training Gym Routines

I (GP) have added categories below for various gym routines that may be of interest. These are sample routines only. Your training should follow a gradual progression (as your planned season allows), with sensible transitions from one routine to another. I will cover more on periodization of
weight training and training transitions amongst other articles on this website and will (in time) release an eBook detailing sensible process maps to follow with your training. However, in the meantime, DO NOT RUN BEFORE YOU CAN WALK! I say this because many newbies will adopt gym routines that are far beyond them and will therefore make little gains and increase their risk of injury.

Gym Routines:
Toning Routines (for men)
Toning Routines (for women)
Endurance Routines
Strength Routines
Circuit Training Routines
Bodybuilding Routines
Powerlifting Routines
Sports-Specific Routines
